Chicago Couple Marries on Toronto Parade Float

Kevin Tindell and William Hall, a Chicago couple, were married earlier this month in Canada on a parade float in the Toronto Pride Parade. The couple are featured on the cover of Gay Chicago Magazine. Read more here and here.

Illinois Couple Marches to Iowa to Marry

An Illinois couple recently marched across the Iowa border together with a group of supporters after being denied a marriage license in their own state. Lindsey O’Brien, of Moline, and Rachel Miller, of Chicago, were then granted a marriage license in the Scott County Recorder’s office in Davenport, Iowa.

In addition to friends and family members, the couple was also joined by Rich Hendricks, pastor of the Metropolitan Community Church of the Quad-Cities in Davenport. The couple plan to marry on June 3, 2011, in Davenport.

Couple Using Wedding to Raise Awareness

T.J. and Brad, a couple living in northwest Chicago, are planning to use their wedding this summer to raise awareness about the need for equality for same-sex couples. T.J. and Brad will be getting a wedding license in D.C. and having a wedding ceremony in New York City at the famous Riverside Church, which is dually affiliated with the United Church of Christ and American Baptist Churches USA. Along the way, they plan to stop in several other locations to meet with local civil rights and religious leaders. Here in Chicago, the couple attend Trinity United Church of Christ. Rep. Mell Announces Same-Sex Wedding Bells

Rep. Deborah Mell

Rep. Deborah Mell, D-Chicago, has announced her plans to marry her same-sex partner Christin Baker, in Iowa. Full coverage here and here. In 2008, Mell became the first openly lesbian candidate ever elected to the state legislature. She and Rep. Greg Harris, D-Chicago, are the only two out LGBT members of the Illinois General Assembly. Mell was arrested in 2004 while protesting her inability to get a marriage license from the Cook County clerk’s office.
